to meet new State requirements.

We invite your input on the Draft Safety Element. The Safety Element describes potential hazards that exist in Lomita and the measures that the City is taking to address them. Some naturally occurring hazards may be unavoidable, but their impacts on communities can be reduced through planning and preparation. Public hearings with the Planning Commission and the City Council will be in the fall of 2021 and will be further noticed.

Environmental Review of Draft  Safety Element

The City of Lomita is circulating an Initial Study and proposed Negative Declaration for a 30-day public review and comment period for responsible agencies, interested organizations and members of the public. This comment period begins on August 14, 2021 and will end on September 14, 2021. Please provide written comments by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 by mail to the City of Lomita Housing Element Update, Attn: Sheri Repp Loadsman, 24300 Narbonne Avenue, Lomita CA 90717 or by email at s.repp@lomitacity.com

The Safety Element establishes policies related to future development that will minimize the risk of personal injury, loss of life, property damage, and environmental damage associated with natural and human-caused hazards.

The Safety Element addresses the following hazards, including:


Due to recently adopted State law (Senate Bill 1035), cities and counties must update the Safety Element at the time of the Housing Element update.

Safety elements must address how the City minimizes, prepares for, responds to, and recovers from hazards.
