The City is updating the Safety Element of the General Plan to meet new State requirements.
The Safety Element establishes policies related to future development that will minimize the risk of personal injury, loss of life, property damage, and environmental damage associated with natural and human-caused hazards.
The Safety Element addresses the following hazards, including:
Air pollution
Extreme Heat
Flooding
Wildfire
Earthquakes
Landslides
Hazardous Materials
Due to recently adopted State law (Senate Bill 1035), cities and counties must update the Safety Element at the time of the Housing Element update.
Safety elements must address how the City minimizes, prepares for, responds to, and recovers from hazards.
