3. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE CITY
COUNCIL
The City Council may discuss and act upon items described under Council Comments; however, items which are not will be limited to Council reports, announcements or requests for clarification, or factual information, or to placement of matters on the agenda for a future meeting.
4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Persons
wishing to speak to the City Council on subjects other than those scheduled are
requested to do so at this time. When
addressing the council, please come to the podium and give your name and
address for the record. In order to
conduct a timely meeting, a 5 minute time limit per person has been
established. Amendments to Government
Code Section 54954.2 prohibit the City Council from taking any action on a
specific item unless it appears on a posted agenda.
Persons wishing discussion on Consent Agenda items should so state at
this time.
5. CONSENT AGENDA
All items under the
Consent Agenda are considered by the Council to be routine and will be enacted
by one motion in the form listed below.
There may be separate discussion of these items prior to the time the
Council votes on the motion. Specific
items may be removed from the Consent Agenda at the request of any
Councilmember or staff.
a. Approval of Minutes – May 22 and June 5 (2)
b. Approval of Demands – $237,714.17
c. Motion to Waive Further Reading
d. Second reading and adoption of Ordinance No 627 which would require English letters and Arabic numbers on at least one of the business signs on a property. RECOMMEND ADOPTION.
e. Second reading and adoption of Ordinance No 628 which adopts by reference Title 8 Consumer Protection and Title 11 Health and Safety of the Los Angeles County Code requiring a letter grade and inspection score system for all food establishments. RECOMMEND ADOPTION.
f. Report submitting claim for damages submitted by Leon Washington alleging physical and mental injuries at Lomita Manor. RECOMMEND REJECTION AND REFERRAL TO LOS ANGELES COUNTY.
g. Report submitting resolution granting consent and jurisdiction to the County of Los Angeles in the matter of County Lighting Maintenance District 10038 and County Lighting District LLA-1, Lomita Zone, annexation property in the area of the southeast corner of Western Avenue and Palos Verdes Drive North. RECOMMEND APPROVAL.
h. Report recommending a $1 per hour increase for the Housing & Community Development Department’s Handyworker Supervisor. RECOMMEND APPROVAL.
i. Report submitting modification to the Commercial Façade Improvement Program which would increase the grant to $5,000 per storefront. RECOMMEND APPROVAL.
j. Report submitting Founder’s Day 2000 Committee post report. RECEIVE & FILE.
k. Report submitting status report on negotiations with CalMet for a commercial solid waste franchise. RECOMMEND STAFF TO PROCEED.

Public hearing on an appeal of Planning Commission denial of a request to erect two double-faced illuminated monument signs at the Sav On Drug Store, 2001 Pacific Coast Highway in Zone C-R. Presented by Asst Planner Patterson.
7. TENTATIVE TRACT NO 53050
Public hearing on a request to construct six (6) attached condominium town homes at 23990 Pennsylvania Avenue in RVD-1500 Zone. Presented by Asst Planner Patterson.
8. TENTATIVE TRACT NO 52994
Public hearing on a request to construct nine (9) two story (27 feet) residential units at 25834-38 Pennsylvania Avenue in Zone RVD-2500. Presented by Asst Planner Patterson.
9. ZONE CHANGE CASE NO 99
Public hearing on a request to change the zoning of Lomita Park, 24428 Eshelman Avenue, from R-1 to O-S. Presented by Asst Planner Patterson.
10. COMMISSION VACANCIES
Schedule meeting date to interview candidates for vacancies on city commissions and boards.
11. VIETNAM MEMORIAL
Request from Councilmember Traina that discussion take place on a proposed Vietnam Memorial on Narbonne and Pacific Coast Highway.
