2.     ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE CITY COUNCIL

 

The City Council may discuss and act upon items described under Council Comments; however, items which are not will be limited to Council reports, announcements or requests for clarification, or factual information, or to placement of matters on the agenda for a future meeting.

          

3.     ORAL COMMUNICATIONS

 

Persons wishing to speak to the City Council on subjects other than those scheduled are requested to do so at this time.  When addressing the council, please come to the podium and give your name and address for the record.  In order to conduct a timely meeting, a 5 minute time limit per person has been established.  Amendments to Government Code Section 54954.2 prohibit the City Council from taking any action on a specific item unless it appears on a posted agenda.  Persons wishing discussion on Consent Agenda items should so state at this time.

 

4.     CONSENT AGENDA

 

All items under the Consent Agenda are considered by the Council to be routine and will be enacted by one motion in the form listed below.  There may be separate discussion of these items prior to the time the Council votes on the motion.  Specific items may be removed from the Consent Agenda at the request of any Councilmember or staff.

 

 

a.     Approval of Demands – $376,550.25

 

b.     Motion to Waive Further Reading

 

c.     Report from Traffic Safety Commission recommending that the speed limit on Walnut Street from Pacific Coast Highway to Lomita Blvd be reduced to 25 MPH and that the appropriate signs be posted.  RECOMMEND APPROVAL.

 

d.     Report recommending waiver of license fees/permits and use of City Hall parking lot for Lomita Fair, September 8-10.  RECOMMEND APPROVAL.

 

PUBLIC HEARINGS

5.     LOMITA LANDSCAPE DISTRICT NO 1

 

Public hearing on the levy of assessment for the maintenance and repairs for public landscaping along the north side of Palos Verdes Drive North adjacent to Rolling Ranchos.  Presented by Public Works Coord McConnell. 

SCHEDULED MATTERS

 

6.     OFFICE SPACE

 

Report relative to use of office space at City Hall by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  Presented by City Adm O’Connor.

 

7.     CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Schedule date to meet with the Chamber of Commerce. 

 

8.     DOWNTOWN COMMERCIAL REVITALIZATION

 

Discussion of plans for downtown commercial revitalization.  Presented by Public Works Coord. McConnell.

 

9.     MONUMENT SIGNS

 

Request from Councilmember Traina that discussion take place on monument signs.

 

CLOSED SESSION

 

Conference with legal counsel – existing litigation – settlement of Phillips v County of L.A. (City of Lomita) Case No 00-1938 MRP (MANx) and Shell et al v County of L.A. (City of Lomita) Case No 00-1917 MRP (MANx) pursuant to G C Section 54956.9(a).

 

Pursuant to G C Section 54957.6 Instructions to city’s labor negotiator:  City Administrator:  all positions.

 

Conference with legal counsel – significant exposure to litigation (1) case pursuant to G C Section 54956.9(b)(1).
