2.      SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS

 

Presentation of Takaishi Sister City visitors, Yukiko Hotta, KayoYasue, Tatuso Nishimori, Shinya Kobayashi, Yoko Iida, Aki Nishikawa, Akihiro Tamiya, Motohiro Tamiya, Yumi Nishiyama, Momoko Fukuhara and Keiko Sano.

 

3.      ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE CITY COUNCIL

 

The City Council may discuss and act upon items described under Council Comments; however, items which are not will be limited to Council reports, announcements or requests for clarification, or factual information, or to placement of matters on the agenda for a future meeting.

          

4.      ORAL COMMUNICATIONS

 

Persons wishing to speak to the City Council on subjects other than those scheduled are requested to do so at this time.  When addressing the council, please come to the podium and give your name and address for the record.  In order to conduct a timely meeting, a 5 minute time limit per person has been established.  Amendments to Government Code Section 54954.2 prohibit the City Council from taking any action on a specific item unless it appears on a posted agenda.  Persons wishing discussion on Consent Agenda items should so state at this time.

 

5.      CONSENT AGENDA

 

All items under the Consent Agenda are considered by the Council to be routine and will be enacted by one motion in the form listed below.  There may be separate discussion of these items prior to the time the Council votes on the motion.  Specific items may be removed from the Consent Agenda at the request of any Councilmember or staff.

 

a.       Approval of Minutes: June 7 and 21

 

b.      Approval of Demands -- $183,276.66

 

 

 

 

c.       Motion to Waive Further Reading

 

d.      Report submitting Handyworker Supervisor agreement with Amelio Bello.  RECOMMEND APPROVAL.

 

e.       Report recommending that the proposal from Radix Corporation to upgrade the meter reading system for Y2K and Windows 98 compliance be accepted for $12,755.  RECOMMEND APPROVAL.

 

f.        Report submitting request from St Margaret Mary that licensing fees and permits be waived and City Hall parking lot be utilized for Lomita Fair, September 10-12.

RECOMMEND APPROVAL.

 

g.       Report from Traffic Safety Commission recommending installation of a vision safety zone and red curb on 240th Street near Benhill Avenue.  RECOMMEND APPROVAL.

 

h.       Report authorizing the retention of R.P. Laurain & Associates to conduct various appraisals in conjunction with economic development activities.  RECOMMEND APPROVAL.

 

i.         Report submitting resolution designating the city administrator and the Sheriff's Department for enforcement of Labor Code Section 6404.5 dealing with smoking in places of employment.  RECOMMEND APPROVAL.

 

j.        Report recommending award of contract for annual financial audit services to Conrad & Associates for fiscal years 1998-99 through 2000-01 at a cost of $83,190.  RECOMMEND APPROVAL.

 

k.      Report recommending approval of specifications and call for bids for resurfacing Lomita Boulevard from Cypress to Woodward and Narbonne Avenue from 248th Street to the north city boundary.  RECOMMEND APPROVAL.

 

SCHEDULED MATTERS

 

6.      COMMERCIAL FACADE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

 

Report recommending modification to the Commercial Façade Improvement Program scope of services.  Presented by Com. Dev. Coord. McPherron.

 

CLOSED SESSION

 

Conference with legal counsel -- initiation of litigation pursuant to G C Section 54956.9(c) 2 cases.
