  2. Presentation of certificates of appreciation to members of the 1998 Little League Major Division District 27 champions.

    Presentation of certificate of appreciation to Lomita Feed Store for its efforts in the beautification of the city.

    Presentation of city plaque to former Captain Beth Dickinson, Lomita Sheriff Station.

  3. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE CITY COUNCIL
  4. The City Council may discuss and act upon items described under Council Comments; however, items which are not will be limited to Council reports, announcements or requests for clarification, or factual information, or to placement of matters on the agenda for a future meeting.

  5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
  6. Persons wishing to speak to the City Council on subjects other than those scheduled are requested to do so at this time. When addressing the council, please come to the podium and give your name and address for the record. In order to conduct a timely meeting, a 5 minute time limit per person has been established. Amendments to Government Code Section 54950 prohibit the City Council from taking any action on a specific item unless it appears on a posted agenda. Persons wishing discussion on Consent Agenda items should so state at this time.

  7. CONSENT AGENDA

All items under the Consent Agenda are considered by the Council to be routine and will be enacted by one motion in the form listed below. There may be separate discussion of these items prior to the time the Council votes on the motion. Specific items may be removed from the Consent Agenda at the request of any Councilmember or staff.

  1. Approval of Minutes: July 20 and August 3
  2. Approval of Demands – $260,447.78
  3. Motion to Waive Further Reading
  4. Report from Traffic Safety Commission submitting engineering and traffic surveys recommending that the current speed limits on Lomita Boulevard and Western Avenue be maintained. RECOMMEND APPROVAL.
  5. Report from Traffic Safety Commission recommending the installation of a crosswalk marking crossing 245th Street near Narbonne Avenue. RECOMMEND APPROVAL.
  6. Report recommending lease of water rights for 1998-99 to Equilon Enterprises for $212,800. RECOMMEND APPROVAL.

PUBLIC HEARINGS

  1. ORDINANCE NO. 597
  2. Public hearing on Ordinance No. 597, amending the Municipal Code by requiring a permit and license hearing board approval for meat processing and packing businesses including meat by-product processing. Presented by Planner Kawasaki.

  3. CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT CASE NO. 175
  4. Public hearing on an appeal of Planning Commission approval of a request for a bridge club at 24100 Narbonne Avenue in Zone D-C. Presented by Planner Kawasaki.

    SCHEDULED MATTERS

  5. REQUEST FROM LOMITA LITTLE LEAGUE

Report submitting letter from Lomita Little League requesting financial assistance. Presented by City Administrator O’Connor.
