  2. Presentation of city plaque to Mary Atkins, Lomita’s 1998 Outstanding Older American.

     Presentation of city plaque to Mike & Nickie Miller and certificates of appreciation to the Miller family and Jeffery family for their outstanding contributions to the community.

     Presentation of certificates of appreciation to Karen Falk and Erisa Preston for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award.

     Presentation from Joe Aro, South Bay Economic Development Partnership, to Lomita City Council regarding economic development.

  4. The City Council may discuss and act upon items described under Council Comments; however, items which are not will be limited to Council reports, announcements or requests for clarification, or factual information, or to placement of matters on the agenda for a future meeting.

  5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
  6. Persons wishing to speak to the City Council on subjects other than those scheduled are requested to do so at this time. When addressing the council, please come to the podium and give your name and address for the record. In order to conduct a timely meeting, a 5 minute time limit per person has been established. Amendments to Government Code Section 54950 prohibit the City Council from taking any action on a specific item unless it appears on a posted agenda. Persons wishing discussion on Consent Agenda items should so state at this time.

a. Approval of Minutes – April 13 and 29

  b. Approval of Demands – $357,991.45

c. Motion to Waive Further Reading

d. Report from Traffic Safety Commission recommending that existing speed limits on Narbonne Avenue be retained. RECOMMEND APPROVAL.

  1. Report recommending approval of contract with Susan Bornemann to provide part time planning services. RECOMMEND APPROVAL.

PUBLIC HEARING

  1. SECURITY BARS
  2. Public hearing on proposed Ordinance No. 593 amending the Municipal Code by prohibiting the placement of security bars and similar devices on the exterior at windows and doors of commercial buildings. Presented by Planner Kawasaki.

    SCHEDULED MATTERS

  3. CONTRACT FOR CITY ATTORNEY SERVICES
  4. Report submitting contract with Burke, Williams & Sorensen to provide city attorney services. Presented by City Attorney Vadon.

  5. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INTERVIEWS

Discussion on procedure to follow for June 8th interviews for economic development/architectural consultant services as requested by Councilmember Traina.
