Free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training 
A 20-hour, extensive training course in safety and basic life saving skills will be offered on three consecutive Saturdays - June 7, 14 and 21 from 9:00am until 4:30pm at Lomita City Hall. This program is open to anyone over the age of 18 (including non-Lomita residents). You will obtain valuable personal and family safety training, learn disaster medical skills, fire suppression and become part of a team of community volunteers to assist others in case of a disaster.

Public Works Service Request Form  
Lomita has implemented a new system allowing city residents to request services over the Internet for street, tree and water issues. By following this link http://www.iworq.com/iworq/Web/Request.asp?cityid=447, you may request city services including water meter repair, tree trimming, pothole and sidewalk repair, graffiti eradication, repair of damaged street signs and poles, and repainting of curbs.

The form is user-friendly. Fill in all fields and click the Submit Request button. Your request will go directly to Public Works which will respond back to you within two business days. Make a note of the confirmation number that appears on the screen.  Using this number, you may return to the site periodically to check the status of your request. There is no need to call the city.

Lawn Mower Exchange Program (Currently sold out)
The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) is conducting a lawn mower exchange program. This program allows residents to turn in their working gas-powered lawn mower and purchase a new cordless rechargeable electric mower for only $100. The new mower, made by the Neuton® Lawn Mower Company, is a $400 value. For more details click here

Boardmembers/Commissioners wanted!!

There is currently one opening on the Tree Commission, one opening for a youth commissioner on the Public Safety and Traffic Commission, and one opening for the Railroad Museum board. Commissioners are appointed by the City Council. Commissioners serve four year terms while Youth Commissioners serve only one year.

Storytime at the Lomita Railroad Museum
Join us aboard the Story Train at the Lomita Railroad Museum every Friday morning in the Little Yellow Caboose from 9:15 until 10:30 am. Listen to Dawn Smith, the storyteller, read stories and sing songs for children age 2 – 7. Admission for adults is $4, children are free!

The Railroad Museum is seeking individuals interested in becoming tour guides and/or guide assistants. We have numerous schools and scout groups that come through the museum on a steady basis and need help demonstrating and telling the story of the Steam Locomotive Era and other information.
